Designs

Print and digital design work grounded in clarity, structure, and brand identity.

ANNUAL REPORTS
I lead the annual report process from concept through final print, serving as the project owner across creative, content, and production. My role includes creative direction, layout and visual systems, writing and editing copy, and conducting interviews with participants and alumni to develop authentic success stories.

In addition to design, I manage the full production workflow, including coordinating with program staff and finance teams to ensure data accuracy, aligning timelines across departments, and working directly with print vendors to meet strict production schedules.

The 2022 Annual Report was recognized by WholeWhale and was featured in the article 14+ Excellent Nonprofit Annual Reports by Laura Clevenger, highlighting its storytelling, clarity, and design execution.
AUDIENCE SPECIFIC FOLDERS
When I joined YouthBuild Lake County, a single print folder was being used across all audiences. I worked directly with staff responsible for distributing materials to understand real-world needs, then redesigned the system into three audience-specific folders tailored for donors, recruiting partners, and employer partners.

Beyond the design work, I built a repeatable system that allows interns to assemble, update, and maintain these folders independently. This approach increased efficiency, improved consistency across materials and reduced the need for centralized oversight.

This project has greatly increased YBLC's visibility within the community, directly leading to new donors, employer partners, and recruits.
NEWSLETTER
One of my first projects at YouthBuild Lake County was redesigning the organizational newsletter at the request of a board member, who felt the existing format was too long and ineffective. I researched best practices, restructured the content hierarchy, and redesigned the newsletter with a mobile-first approach focused on clarity, scannability, and engagement.

The redesigned newsletter increased open rate averages from ~7% to 32%, while click-to-open rates rose from ~3% to 24%, indicating a significant improvement in reader engagement. The new format established a sustainable template that balanced storytelling with performance, while remaining easy to maintain over time.
ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGNS
I led the environmental design for YouthBuild Lake County’s new Career Training & Workforce Hub, creating a cohesive brand image across the entire facility. The scope included over 30 installations throughout the building, ranging from large-format five-foot canvases and digital TV displays on each floor, to 20+ success story posters, wayfinding signage, motivational graphics, an exterior Lexan road sign, and a modular donor wall designed to evolve alongside the Capital Campaign.

In addition to design, I managed production and installation across multiple moving timelines, coordinating vendors, fabrication, and mounting logistics to meet a fixed deadline. Every piece was printed, installed, and fully mounted in time for the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, ensuring the space opened as a complete, intentional environment rather than a work in progress.
TRANSIT CAMPAIGN
I led the design and execution of a transit advertising campaign to support the launch of YouthBuild Lake County’s Pre-Apprentice Program. The campaign included four "Super Kong" bus ads (pictured) and three transit shelter designs, each tailored for high-visibility, fast-read environments while maintaining brand clarity and message focus.

In addition to creative development, I coordinated directly with the transit vendor to manage specifications, production requirements, and placement timelines. The campaign proved highly effective, with over 40% of accepted applicants for the first Pre-Apprentice cohort citing the bus ads as how they learned about YouthBuild Lake County.
SPRING BENEFITS
I lead the creative direction and visual execution of YouthBuild Lake County’s Spring Benefit events, translating broad themes into cohesive, immersive experiences. Each event is designed as a complete visual system, ensuring consistency, clarity, and impact.

Over multiple years, I developed and executed event themes including Chicago World’s Fair, Kentucky Derby, Hollywood, and the Roaring 20s, shaping each through custom branding, messaging, and environmental design. My work spans all printed and digital materials, sponsorship packets, invitations, event spaces, and post-event communications, creating a unified experience across every donor touchpoint.
